ABUJA – Nigerian police have arrested 164 people involved in the riots considered religious sentiment in the city of Jos some time ago. Authorities planned to indict them on charges of terrorism range from arson to the action.
“The Nigerian police had arrested the principal suspect the riots in Dogo Nahawa Village, Rahat and Jeji happened on March 7, some time ago,” a statement from the police. The police added that if the 164 arrested two of which are still status as a witness.
In addition, the plan of the 41 people arrested will be charged with acts of terrorism and murder. While the other 121-coated faces charges of weapons possession, to riots, arson and the action caused the torture of citizens.
Each suspect is charged with murder faced the death penalty, while terrorism suspects will be faced with the threat of life imprisonment.
Unrest religious sentiments in Nigeria’s are increasingly worried. In the past two weeks, hundreds of residents in villages near the city of Jos were killed. Residents who died was largely Christian.
Police said if 100 people were killed by a machete blow, while government officials said that if more than 500 dead were massacred by ethnic Fulani. Many pundits speculated the incident was carried out as a form of retribution from similar riots that killed 300 Muslims in January.
Own police had arrested 213 suspects allegedly involved in the incident last January. The suspects have been undergoing their sentences in various prisons in Nigeria.
